Review: Forever Seger Delivers ‘Old Time Rock & Roll’ to Kingston

The Silver Bullet Experience Shines at Kingston’s Grand Theatre

Concert Review by Brad Foley, May 31, 2026

On Friday, May 29, the Grand Theatre in Kingston was transformed into a celebration of one of rock’s most enduring catalogs as Forever Seger: The Silver Bullet Experience delivered a spectacular tribute to Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. From the opening notes to the final encore, the audience was treated to an evening of exceptional musicianship, authenticity, and heartfelt performances that captured both the sound and spirit of Seger’s music.

At the center of it all was Kevin Reid, whose powerful vocals and commanding stage presence carried the show from start to finish. Reid understands that Bob Seger’s songs are as much about storytelling as they are about singing, and he delivered each performance with sincerity, passion, and conviction. A natural frontman, he connected effortlessly with the audience, bringing the characters, emotions, and stories within Seger’s music vividly to life. Rather than simply imitate Seger, Reid captured the spirit of the songs while making them his own.

Musical director and keyboardist John Jamieson was instrumental in recreating the rich sound that fans know and love. His piano and keyboard work provided the backbone for many of the evening’s most memorable moments, demonstrating both technical excellence and a deep understanding of the music.

One of the evening’s most memorable moments came during the beautiful instrumental prelude to Turn the Page. A musical dialogue between Shaylynn Anderson’s soulful saxophone and John Jamieson’s expressive keyboards unfolded with remarkable sensitivity, building anticipation throughout the theatre before Kevin Reid’s vocals entered. It was a breathtaking performance that captured the loneliness, reflection, and resilience at the heart of one of Seger’s most beloved songs.

Anderson was outstanding throughout the evening. Her expressive saxophone work on Mainstreet perfectly captured the song’s nostalgic atmosphere, while her iconic performance on Turn the Page delivered one of the emotional highlights of the night. Few instruments are more closely associated with Bob Seger’s music than the saxophone, and Anderson honored that legacy beautifully.

Guitarist Alex Harrison delivered one standout performance after another. His exceptional slide guitar work on Like A Rock was particularly impressive, recreating one of the song’s most recognizable musical signatures with both technical precision and emotional depth. Whether delivering soaring leads or tasteful fills, Harrison consistently elevated every performance.

Fellow guitarist Eric Robbs added depth, versatility, and energy throughout the evening, helping recreate the powerful guitar-driven sound that defined so many of Seger’s classic recordings. His rhythm and lead work blended seamlessly with Harrison’s, creating a dynamic guitar partnership that was instrumental to the band’s authentic Silver Bullet sound.

The rhythm section was exceptional throughout the evening. Bassist Curtis Freeman was particularly impressive, providing the steady groove and musical foundation that anchored every song. His driving bass lines on Hollywood Nights and Heavy Music supplied the energy and momentum behind two of the night’s most electrifying performances, demonstrating both technical precision and a deep feel for the music. Alongside him, drummer Ed Mortenson delivered a powerful and polished performance behind the kit. Mortenson’s ability to shift seamlessly between driving rock anthems and more delicate ballads helped capture the dynamic range that makes Seger’s catalog so timeless.

The Segerettes (Cyndi Richards, Mia Praught, and Wendy Irvine) were a delight from start to finish. Their harmonies were polished and powerful, faithfully recreating the rich backing vocal arrangements that are such an important part of the Bob Seger sound. Their vibrant stage presence, choreographed routines, and unmistakable joy in performing truly elevated the show.

One thing that stood out throughout the evening was the sheer depth of talent on stage. Forever Seger is much more than a tribute act. It’s a collection of accomplished musicians whose collective experience, chemistry, and passion for the music shine through in every performance. Beyond the exceptional musicianship, it was clear the band was having fun. The smiles, interactions, and playful exchanges between members throughout the evening reflected a genuine camaraderie that resonated with the audience and added another layer of enjoyment to the performance.

The standing ovations, enthusiastic singalongs, and thunderous applause throughout the evening were proof that Kingston’s audience recognized they were witnessing something special. From Kevin Reid’s commanding vocals and the band’s exceptional musicianship to the energy and charisma of the Segerettes, Forever Seger doesn’t simply perform Bob Seger’s music; they bring it to life.

For anyone who loves Bob Seger’s timeless catalog, Forever Seger: The Silver Bullet Experience is as close as you’ll come to reliving the magic of the Silver Bullet Band. It was an unforgettable evening of classic rock performed with passion, precision, and heart—a celebration of the music of one of rock and roll’s greatest storytellers.
